Keanu: Bring A Sweater! It Was Pretty Cold In My Movie Theater
Brrrr! That was my first thought when first sitting down to watch Key & Peele's newest film project. The comedy duo's Keanu tells the story of two cousins who have to go undercover as drug dealers in order to track down their stolen kitten. The story was simple enough to follow, even though I was shivering through the opening credits as a result of the cranked AC in my specific theater.
Not only is the comedy in this film spot on, but the action is great as well! Peter Atencio sure knows how to elevate comedy by making it truly cinematic, much like the people at my AMC knew how to make me feel like I was watching the film inside of a poorly insulated igloo. You're going to want to make sure you wear layers for this one.
While some might worry that Key & Peele's sensibilities won't translate to a full-length feature, rest assured that their quirks never overpower the rest of the film. What might be hard to deal with for the full run of the movie is figuring out a way to stay warm when nobody asked for the air to be continuously running the whole time. It felt perfect outside. Why make us freeze to death?
Overall, Keanu is a very pleasant experience at the movies, if you can ignore the constant chattering of your teeth, brought on by the people at the AMC who probably miss their homes at the top of Mt. Everest.
