8 Surprising Things You Didn't Know About Daredevil's Epic Season 2 Hallway Fight
The wait is finally over! Daredevil Season 2 has arrived, and with it, it has brought a brand new hallway fight scene. Of course, fans of the show will remember the iconic hallway fight at the end of season one's second episode. The scene was beautifully shot in one take with extensive fight choreography that would permanently stamp Marvel as "the company that can do long hallway fight scenes."
By now, we all know that the second season has delivered on its promise of a new hallway fight scene in a big way, but here are a few things about this epic scene that you might not have known.
1. This New Hallway Fight Wasn't In The Original Script!
It's true! Originally, Daredevil and The Punisher were just supposed to walk down the hallway and get in the elevator, narrowly escaping the goons, who would bang on the closed elevator doors and yell something like, "Oh man! They got away!" However, the elevator doors were too slow on every take, and Charlie Cox was eventually so frustrated that he started punching all the actors playing goons. That's right! This whole fight was improvised by Charlie Cox and captured by the cameraman, whose name I didn't look up.
2. Part Of The Hallway Is Actually A Stairwell
I don't mean to ruin the illusion, but even though Daredevil kept most of the fight in a hallway, about half of it ends up being in a stairwell. Sure, he goes down a lot of floors into a second hallway, but there's no denying that he took the fight out of where we wanted it to be for about a full minute.
3. Charlie Cox Reportedly Fell Asleep Two Minutes Into The Fight
It's kind of hard to tell because of the funny red hat he's wearing, but apparently, Charlie Cox actually fell asleep partway through the fight. It looks like the red pajamas he was wearing were so comfortable that he decided to just take a little snooze before finally waking up again in the middle of a flip. It makes sense, because you can hear him screaming during that final flip. Wouldn't you be surprised to wake up in the middle of a flip?
4. When Daredevil Knocked The Light Out, One Of The Gaffers Screamed Out, "Bright Idea, Devil Boy!" And Was Immediately Added To The Writing Staff
Since this fight was improvised, the lighting team didn't expect Charlie Cox to knock out the light with his chain whip. Though Charlie Cox would later have to pay for the damage, one of the gaffers was still upset enough about the whole situation that he shouted out, "Bright idea, Devil Boy!" Showrunner Douglas Petrie liked the quip so much that he immediately brought the gaffer on to the writing staff for Season 3, which will prominently feature the new, original character, Devil Boy.
5. This Fight Is Not Technically A Single Take, Since Charlie Cox Stopped Twice In The Middle Of The Fight To Exclaim, "I Am Batman!"
Though the hallway fight scene from the first season is a single-take, this new, longer scene, only appears to be a single take. This was because Charlie Cox stopped two times during the fight to scream out, "I am Batman!" Since he was wearing his red Daredevil pajamas and was playing Daredevil, not Batman at the time, this had to be cut from the fight, making the single take fight still a single take, but with 2 invisible cuts. Some people think that Charlie Cox confused himself with Ben Affleck, who at one time played Daredevil, but now plays Batman.
6. One Of The Goons Was Supposed To Have A Line Of Dialogue, But He Fell Over, And Never Got To Say It
One of the goons in the stairwell was supposed to stop Daredevil and say, "Hold it right there," but accidentally tripped on his shoelace and never got to say it. He'd already informed all his friends on social media about it, even though he'd been asked not to, so he couldn't even just keep quiet about it.
7. Spider-Man Is Lurking In The Shadows The Entire Time In Case Daredevil Needs Help With Fighting
Spider-Man's big appearance in the Captain America: Civil War trailer has put us on high alert for the wall crawler in other Marvel Cinematic Universe properties, and this is no exception. Throughout this entire fight, Spidey is actually crawling around in the shadows, just in case he needs any help. He doesn't though, so Spidey's first visible appearance will still be in Captain America: Civil War.
8. There Are 10 More Episodes After The Hallway Fight About Morality Or Something
Believe it or not, more stuff happens after the hallway fight. I think it's about whether or not our actions have inherent good or inherent evil present within them or if that's a judgment made by society. It's kind of hard to tell because there are no more hallway fight scenes. I literally can't remember what happens after episode 2 of season 1 because they don't fight in a hallway anymore. I'm sure it's fine. But c'mon. More hallway stuff.
So there you have it.
After two episodes of stuff happening in offices, on rooftops, and in places that were not a hallway, the end of the third episode finally brings our hero back to the place where he fights best.
